The term Norwegians may refer to:

  • Something of or relating to Norway, a country in Northern Europe
  • One or both of the two official written forms of the Norwegian language:
  • People with a Norwegian ancestral or ethnic identity (Norwegian people), whether living in Norway, emigrants, or the descendants of emigrants, also referred to as Nordmenn, Northmen, and Norsemen
  • Nationals or citizens of Norway, which also includes Sami people and the officially recognised national minorities kvener/skogfinner (Ethnic Finns), Roma people, Romanoar (Romani people) and Jews as well as recent non-European immigrants and their descendants (see: Demographics of Norway).
  • Norwegian Air Shuttle, a low-cost airline
  • A rugged type of insulated food container designed for mass catering out of doors, as used by the British Army, and known as "Norwegian Containers", popularly abbreviated to "Norwegian"
  • A pullover type of thermal shirt with a distinctive roll neck, used by the British Army, and known as a "Norwegian Shirt", popularly abbreviated as a "Norwegian" (Norwegians themselves refer to a similar shirt as an Icelander, a knitted cotton sweater usually in black and white)

As the end of Ramadam -- Islam's holiest month -- is celebrated around the world, this week's Encore recipe from 2005 takes a look at other festive dishes that are traditional to the Muslim table. Tomorrow night is the beginning of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim holiday corresponding to the final day of the Mecca pilgrimage. Non-Muslims are probably more familiar with Eid al-Fitr, which ends the Ramadan fast, but Eid al-Adha -- the Feast of the Sacrifice -- is actually the more important celebration. It's also known as the Great Feast (Eid al-Kabir).
